Kelly grew up in a rural area in NE Wisconsin. “My graduating class was only 23 people and there were 77 people total in my entire high school. Naturally, coming from such a small area I had no idea what an athletic trainer was.” It was not until college that she stumbled across the profession and she immediately knew it was a perfect fit!

Kelly went on to acquire her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training at Pacific University here in Hillsboro Oregon. Graduate school further cemented Kelly’s confidence that she had chosen the correct career. Through clinical rotations, particularly in the high school setting, she discovered her passion for working with the active population. Kelly has worked with a wide range of athletes spanning from youth club sports to professional men’s and women’s soccer. “Athletic trainers are more than health care providers; they are also mentors and advocates.” Kelly loves being a part of a profession that puts you in the position to possibly positively impact someone else’s life, beyond returning them to sport or activity. Kelly has been accepted to the Doctor of Education in Sports and Performance Psychology program at University of Western States here in Portland and will matriculate April 2019. After graduation from the EdD program, Kelly aspires to acquire her Certified Mental Performance Consultant credential and plans to utilize these skills to provide holistic care to the athletes she works with.

For Kelly, what makes working for O+FS special, is that she has the opportunity to work for an employer that values athletic trainers and all that they can offer to the clinic and community. “Being able to work with other athletic trainers with a diverse background of clinical experiences, gives you the ability to bounce ideas off one another. It makes for a great support net for a young professional.” Kelly is excited to see how she will continue to grow with the O+FS team.
