H2O 101: Stay Hydrated!

Hydration is important any time of the year, but now that summer is here, this is the perfect time to remind you how to properly hydrate your body to make sure you don’t compromise your health!

Why Water?

When you exercise or are exposed to heat, your body’s temperature is elevated and the body sweats to cool itself down. Not only do you lose water during this process, you also lose electrolytes!

If you don’t properly replenish the body’s supply of water and electrolytes, you may experience dehydration and increase your risk of heat illnesses such as heat stroke which is among the leading causes of death among adults and teens. As your body becomes dehydrated, it may not be able to cool itself off as quickly.

When Should I Hydrate?

We all know that drinking water is an important component of a healthy lifestyle, but when you drink is just as important! Drinking water at different times of the day can maximize how your body uses it:

Hydrate

When you Wake – 2 or more 8-oz. glasses first thing in the morning can help activate your internal organs and give your brain a jump start!
