Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists are proud to announce that R. Brian Bettencourt, M.D. will be joining the providers in the practice of Sports Medicine Primary Care beginning December 2018. Dr. Bettencourt is coming to Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists from Kaiser Permanente where he has been practicing since 2012. Originally from California, Dr. Bettencourt moved to Portland, Oregon in 2012 in order to be closer to family. Athletes and active people make up a significant part of his practice as he serves as a Team Physician for Pacific University, University of Portland, Portland Community College, and supports several local youth teams and organizations. With Dr. Bettencourt’s association, Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists will continue to build our Sports Medicine Center for Excellence with a Concussion Program to further service our numerous teams with a comprehensive, full-service orthopedic experience in the Portland Metro Area.
Dr. Brian Bettencourt graduated college with a degree in neurobiology and physiology from UC Davis. After graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he completed his family medicine residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Alabama where he stayed on as faculty at the College of Medicine and became the Team Physician for Division 1 Athletics prior to moving to Portland, Oregon in 2012.
Dr. Bettencourt feels that practicing medicine is a calling deep within. He believes that “health is the first wealth” and loves the idea of keeping people healthy and active so they can get the most out of life.
