Profile
Born and raised in California, Dr. Brian Bettencourt graduated college with a degree in neurobiology and physiology from UC Davis. After graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, he completed his family medicine residency at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Bettencourt completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of South Alabama where he stayed on as faculty at the College of Medicine and became the Team Physician for Division 1 Athletics. After welcoming their first child in 2012, Dr. Bettencourt and his wife decided to move closer to family and fell in love with the Portland area.
Dr. Bettencourt feels that practicing medicine is a calling deep within. He believes that “health is the first wealth” and loves the idea of keeping people healthy and active so they can get the most out of life. Athletes and active people make up a significant part of his practice as he serves as the Team Physician for Pacific University Athletics, University of Portland Athletics (Soccer and Basketball), Portland Community College Athletics (Soccer), and many more.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking and camping all over the Northwest with his family, as much trout fishing as his wife will allow, and exercising outdoors. He strongly believes that exercise brings the mind, body, and spirit together for him. On other occasions, he enjoys reading fiction and professional publications when he gets the opportunity.
