Natalie Krieg

Natalie Krieg, ATC

When Natalie started college at Oregon State University she wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted to do, but she knew she loved anatomy and physiology and somehow wanted to stay involved in athletics. She had gone to a small school and didn’t even know what an athletic trainer was, but when she heard of the opportunity to become an athletic trainer that first week of college, it seemed like a perfect fit! She had suffered multiple injuries throughout sports in high school, but hadn’t had someone to educate her about how to properly rehabilitate and return to activity.

Profile

When Natalie started college at Oregon State University she wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted to do, but she knew she loved anatomy and physiology and somehow wanted to stay involved in athletics. She had gone to a small school and didn’t even know what an athletic trainer was, but when she heard of the opportunity to become an athletic trainer that first week of college, it seemed like a perfect fit! She had suffered multiple injuries throughout sports in high school, but hadn’t had someone to educate her about how to properly rehabilitate and return to activity. The opportunity to be that person for other athletes who got injured really peaked her interest!

As an athletic training student Natalie especially enjoyed when she assisted at a local high school her senior year. “It is so rewarding to be able to be there for athletes when they get injured, to help them cope with the initial shock, and then be by their side as they recover and return to their sport.” There were several students that she was able to see through from beginning to end of significant injuries, and the reward of this solidified the fact that she had chosen the right career path.

After school she had the opportunity to provide athletic training services in a clinic setting to the student body at OSU while completing an athletic training fellowship under the guidance of a seasoned athletic trainer. “Through this I learned the importance of taking into account a patient’s entire body and well-being when treating them. Our bodies are one big kinetic chain with each part affecting the other, and the more I could approach my treatment with this in mind, the better the overall outcome of the patient.”

Natalie moved to the East Coast for a short time where she worked as a physician extender at Premier Orthopaedics where she found her niche in the clinic setting. “I love being able to interact with people of all ages, with all sorts of injuries-it has significantly expanded my orthopedic knowledge and skills in patient care.” After moving back home to the Portland area she was so glad to find that Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists were using athletic trainers in the same capacity in the clinic. “The physicians here truly care to always give their best work to each and every patient, and to educate them in the process. They also love to teach which benefits me and our patients as I am then able to give better care the more I learn.” Natalie has thoroughly enjoyed her time with O+F and appreciates the team approach that the clinic takes in providing the highest quality of care possible.
