Martha Minogue knew she wanted to be involved in the sports medicine world since she can remember. As a four-sport athlete with an extended family filled with nurses, doctors and physical therapists, Martha was highly interested and exposed to the world of medicine and athletics from an early age. She was lucky enough to have an athletic trainer throughout club sports and high school who further peaked her interest in the sports medicine field.

Martha Minogue knew she wanted to be involved in the sports medicine world since she can remember. As a four-sport athlete with an extended family filled with nurses, doctors and physical therapists, Martha was highly interested and exposed to the world of medicine and athletics from an early age. She was lucky enough to have an athletic trainer throughout club sports and high school who further peaked her interest in the sports medicine field. “My athletic trainer helped me through a major injury in high school by not only diagnosing me, but setting me up with an excellent orthopedic physician and checking up on my mental well-being as it became a career ending injury.”
This also brought about an interest in psychology for Martha, who went on to complete a Masters’ Degree with an emphasis in Sports Psychology. “I found that athletic training and sports psychology really go hand in hand. Patients who are suffering from injuries often have to make a lot of changes in their lives and I believe that having a firm understanding of psychology can truly make a positive difference.” Miller states, “Athletic trainers are often the first people to discuss an injury with a patient, so it’s very important to be conscious of the fact that the injury doesn’t just affect their body, but also their mind.”
Her desire to help people made the Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists feel like a perfect fit for her right off the bat. “After reading about the clinic, and coming in for an interview, I could really tell that people cared about their patients here, and that was something I really wanted to be part of.” Martha knew from there it was just the place for her to advance her knowledge in orthopedics by completing an Athletic Training Residency Program here. Following completion of her program, she decided to stick around. “I am very honored to have been the first athletic training resident in Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists history. I loved my time learning here and am excited to stay and work full-time.” Martha is currently working primarily with Dr. J. Brad V. Butler, however, you can also find her helping out one of the other physicians’ clinics, assisting in the operating room, or out on a sports field. During season, Martha is the primary ATC for Crossfire United Elite Club National League Soccer teams.
